Divers for Dinner? An overview of fatal shark attacks on divers
What are your chances of dying from a shark while diving? The answer may be different depending on who you ask. Shark bites often become sensational narratives that leave people apprehensive about their safety in the water. DAN Research interns Alexandra and Burnley have analyzed shark-related deaths from DAN's fatality database to identify the factors that make a diver more likely to be bitten by a shark. By comparing factors such as location, type of dive and diver activity in fatal shark interactions spanning 59 years, DAN can help mitigate the potential risks associated with encountering sharks while diving.
