>An emergency is no time to be scrambling for numbers. If you are calling DAN from overseas, this is the number you will need to call: +1-919-684-9111.
>It is important to note the DAN Emergency Hotline accepts collect calls, but if you start with the country code, you are making a direct call, not a collect call. Part of your emergency action plan should include determining how to make a collect call as this function can vary substantially from country to country. You can always call the local operator upon your arrival to ask how to perform this function. You can also use a country direct service, which will provide you with dialing instructions for your travel destinations before you leave. When placing international calls, 800 numbers do not work; you will need a direct line.
>It's also essential to identify local emergency medical services (EMS) numbers; you should activate local EMS before calling DAN. For a list of country codes, local EMS contact information and additional resources, DAN members can login to their online account and refer to the Worldcue® Planner Real-Time Travel Intelligence® Resource. This is a continually updated database of pertinent travel information on destinations around the globe and it is a benefit of DAN membership.
>If you have non-emergency medical questions, benefit questions or need to access other DAN services during your international travels, call +1-919-684-2948 Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (EST). DAN is here for you, no matter where your travels take you
