DAN Trip Insurance
Frequently Asked Questions

What is the pre-existing condition waiver and how can I qualify?
If insurance is purchased within 7 days of initial trip payment, the Pre-Existing Medical Condition Exclusion will be waived. This is applicable to all coverages contained in the plan. You must be medically able to travel when you pay your plan cost. In the event a claim is filed, the injury or illness must be substantiated to our Claims Department.

Does everyone need to purchase the insurance?
Our coverage is on a per person basis. Each person only needs to cover their own trip arrangements.

Are there co-payments or deductibles with your plan?
There are no deductibles or co-payments required.

What does the policy cover for cancellation?
The plan covers if you have an unforeseen sickness, injury or death of yourself, an immediate family member or a traveling companion, subject to limitations and exclusions. The plan also covers for inclement weather, unforeseen labor strikes affecting public transportation, and unforeseen traffic accidents, subject to limitations and exclusions.

Can you cancel your trip for any reason?
Only certain unforeseen circumstances would be covered. A list of these circumstances is included in the Description of Coverage.

What happens if someone not traveling becomes ill or passes away? Is this covered?
An illness or death of an immediate family member not traveling with you may be covered; however, the same pre-existing clause would apply. The definition of an immediate family member is included in the Description of Coverage.

Will AIG Travel Guard track my baggage if it is lost? And if so, for how long?
If your baggage is lost while you are covered under the plan we do track your baggage for one full year if it is not found.

When does the coverage begin?
The Trip Cancellation coverage begins at 12:01 am local time at the location of the insured on the day after the Enrollment Form and payment is received by AIG Travel Guard. All other coverages will begin at 12:01 am local time at the location of the insured on the scheduled trip departure date shown on the Enrollment Form provided required payment has been received.

How do I file a claim?
To file a claim, you can call AIG Travel Guard between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm Central Time and start the process with a Claims Analyst. The analyst will explain what needs to be provided in order to process your claim. The form will then be faxed or mailed to you to provide that information.

What if I want a refund?
AIG Travel Guard is committed to providing products and services that will exceed expectations. If you are not completely satisfied, you can receive a refund provided 1) it is not past the original departure date; 2) you have not submitted a claim; and 3) requests must be submitted to AIG Travel Guard in writing within 15 days of the effective date of your coverage. If past 15 days, premium and service fees are non-refundable.

How does the coverage provided by the Preferred Plan compare to that of DAN Trip Insurance?
The trip cancellation coverage that is included in the Preferred Plan Dive Accident plan (underwritten by United States Life Insurance Company) only covers dive trip cancellation or interruption due to sickness or illness that would substantially impair your ability to dive and may only reimburse you for the portion of the trip that is directly related to diving. DAN Trip Insurance covers any recreational trip you make - airfare, hotel, non-diving related tours, etc. – and the loss does not have to be related directly to your inability to make a dive. The reasons for the loss of the trip may expand to the illness of your traveling companion or missing the tour because you were detained by a traffic accident on the way to the airport. DAN Trip Insurance also supplements the limits for delayed and lost baggage, medical expenses and similar coverage offered in the Preferred Plan. In addition, DAN Trip Insurance Insureds have access to non-insurance services, such as a 24/7 travel rebooking service in the event that you are delayed in transit and require assistance getting your flights or accommodations changed. It is also important to note that the Preferred Plan provides coverage for an entire year while the DAN Trip Insurance is only for a specific trip over a specified time period. Take this opportunity to go to the description of the coverage for DAN Trip Insurance to see how well this plan covers your trip investment.

Don't I have similar coverage already as a DAN Member?
All DAN individual and family members have the benefit of TravelAssist, arranged emergency medical evacuation for any medical emergency. TravelAssist is not insurance and it does not provide trip cancellation & interruption insurance protection, lost or delayed baggage coverage and other trip insurance benefits. DAN members are also eligible to purchase one of three dive accident insurance plans (underwritten by United States Life Insurance Company) that cover the medical costs associated with the treatment of a diving accident. These insurance plans are optional coverage that must be purchased in addition to the annual member fee.

How much does DAN Trip Insurance cost?
DAN Trip Insurance is based on the cost of your trip. Overall, the DAN Trip Insurance premium averages less than $63.00 per $1,000 of coverage. Unlike some other trip insurance plans, the DAN Trip Insurance plan is not age banded; in other words, everyone pays the same rate regardless of age. To get a quote on your trip, click here.

What is the Primary Collision Damage Waiver?
DAN Trip insurance offers an optional Primary Collision Damage Waiver to provide collision and comprehensive coverage for any damage that the car rental contract may hold the insured responsible for. The plan provides $35,000 in coverage for $11 per day per vehicle. There are no deductibles.
