DAN Interns 2013

Emily Davidson

Emily is an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying chemistry and marine science. Having previously worked at a teen scuba camp in Hawaii, Emily, a certified divemaster, would like to combine her interest in science and her love for diving and believes the DAN Research Internship Program will provide her with important career insight.

As a DAN Research Intern, she will be working with Dr. Neal Pollock at the DAN headquarters in Durham, NC. The research projects Emily will be working on include the field dive monitoring data management and the breath-hold incident database.

"I'm excited to work with DAN's outstanding staff and to dive deeper into diving and human physiology." ~ Emily D.

Alexander Moore

Alex is a student at Towson University, in Towson, MD, majoring in Exercise Science. He is particularly interested in both diving and physical fitness. He holds a master diver certification and is a certified personal trainer working in gyms, schools, and local organizations.

He is especially looking forward to his experience with DAN because of his interest in further understanding how diving affects the body from a physiological and fitness related viewpoint. Throughout the internship he will be working with Dr. Petar Denoble at the DAN headquarters in Durham, NC. The research he will be working on includes a study determining the reproducibility of non-invasive tests that target the functioning of the autonomic nervous system.

"The internship with DAN is an incredible opportunity to learn and contribute and I look forward to having experiences that help me combine my passion for the fields of fitness and diving." ~ Alex M.

Brittany Trout

Brittany graduated from Saint Louis University, in St. Louis, MO in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health. She is interested in continuing her education with a focus in epidemiology and behavioral science. She previously worked with America SCORES, a non-for profit organization that aims to increase literacy and physical fitness in urban youth through soccer and poetry.

She is exploring possibilities to merge her passion for public health with her interest in dive medicine and is working on earning her advanced diver certification. Brittany will be working with Dr. Petar Denoble at the DAN headquarters in Durham, NC and will focus on a study determining the reproducibility of non-invasive tests that target the functioning of the autonomic nervous system and the fatality database.

"The opportunity to learn from and work alongside the best diving professionals as a research intern with DAN would be the opportunity of a lifetime." ~ Brittany T.
