Dennis Liberson Becomes Chairman of the DAN Board of Directors
Last Updated: 10/16/2007 6:12:03 PM

Retired corporate executive Dennis Liberson has been named the Chairman of the Divers Alert Network Board of Directors. He has been a DAN Member since 1991 and has sat on the board for three years. Previous chairman William Anlyan remains on the board.

Dan Orr, CEO and President of DAN, said he looks forward to working with Liberson as the DAN Board of Directors works closely with DAN management to chart the future of DAN and dive safety. "I also would like to thank William Anlyan for his many contributions as DAN Chairman over the past three years," Orr said.

Liberson retired in 2003 from a 23-year career as a business executive. Among his current pursuits are his complementary passions as scuba diver and underwater photographer. He has traveled extensively to experience the best scuba diving and underwater photographic subjects the world has to offer, including destinations in the Caribbean and the Bahamas, the Red Sea, the Maldives, French Polynesia, Fiji, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Mexico and South Africa. Liberson has been a certified scuba diver since 1986.

Liberson said he is excited to have the opportunity to serve as DAN's Chairman of the Board. "As I've traveled throughout the world scuba diving for more than 20 years, I've seen firsthand how critically important DAN's mission is to divers,” Liberson said.

From 1995 until his retirement in 2003, Liberson served as an Executive Vice President for Capital One Financial Corp. in McLean, Va. His previous corporate experience included executive positions with Philip Morris USA in Richmond, Va. and Burger King Corp. in Miami, Fla.

Liberson also serves on the Board of Directors of The Coral Reef Alliance and is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, in Gloucester Point, Va.

Liberson received his master's degree in labor and industrial relations from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. He has a bachelor of arts degree in economics and government from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.

He and his family reside in Great Falls, Va.
