DAN Trip Insurance Benefits Expanded
Last Updated: 9/29/2009 9:14:39 AM

Improvements to Program Come with No Increase in Premiums

Divers and travelers alike have come to value DAN Trip Insurance for the coverage it offers and its premiums based solely on trip cost. But DAN now brings even more reason to appreciate it, as DAN Trip Insurance has expanded the standard benefits it offers with absolutely no increase in premiums.

Among the expanded benefits are increased coverage for Trip Interruption from 100% to 150% of the insured Tour Cost, the inclusion of a $500 Missed Connection reimbursement, the extension of the purchase window for the pre-existing conditions exclusion from seven days to 15 days from initial trip payment, and coverage for airline penalties assessed to redeposit airline miles in the event of a canceled trip.

“Expanding the coverage offered by our trip insurance was a fantastic opportunity to bring even more value to our membership,” said Peter Winkler, DAN Director of Business Development and Strategy. “DAN Members travel all over the world on every kind of trip you can imagine, so to be able to provide them increased coverage to help ease their worries means a lot to us.”

DAN Trip Insurance is offered on a per-trip basis. Premiums are based solely on the cost of the trip and include no age restrictions. Policies are available for all kinds of travel and are intended to compliment the benefits offered through DAN Membership such as TravelAssist and specific elements of the DAN Preferred Dive Accident Insurance Plan. DAN Trip Insurance provides trip cancellation and interruption insurance coverage, lost or delayed baggage coverage and other trip insurance benefits.

“Members have a lot of resources available to them through their DAN Membership to assist in the event of a dive emergency or injury, but Trip Insurance provides an added layer of coverage regardless of whether they are diving or not,” Winkler said. “In the event that a trip is canceled due to weather, luggage is lost, or pretty much any other challenge a traveler might face, you have some recourse in recovering non-refundable expenses.”

In addition to the increased standard coverage, which comes with no addition in premium, travelers also have the option to double the plan’s baggage and personal effects coverage (from $1,500 to $3,000) for an additional $10 per person. The standard baggage and personal effects coverage of $1,500 is automatically included with the plan; only doubling the coverage incurs the additional fee.

DAN Trip Insurance is offered through a partnership between DAN Services and Travel Guard. For a complete overview of DAN Trip Insurance and its coverage, or to obtain a quote for upcoming travel, please visit www.DiversAlertNetwork.org.
