One of the last chances we have to resolve potential problems before a dive is the predive safety check. All divers are taught to check their equipment — and that of their buddy — before stepping off into the blue, but sometimes in all the excitement, the check is rushed through, or omitted altogether.
Most of us have probably had at least one dive where we hit the water only to find out we weren’t entirely ready. Often we sort out the problem with nothing more than a slight embarrassment, but other times the consequences can be much more serious.
The latest Scuba STAR Network Safety Survey is taking a look at how — and how frequently — divers perform that final check and what problems they may run into in the process.
