Watch for the 64th DAN Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Course

DAN® and the Undersea Hyperbaric Medical Society will conduct the 64th DAN Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Course Oct. 25-Nov. 1 on the island of Bonaire, Netherland Antilles.

This six-day course is designed primarily for physicians, emergency medical personnel, paramedics and nurses, but instructors, divemasters and other non-medical dive-related personnel might also find the course of value.

The course will provide the facts relevant to understanding the management of dive accidents, especially those bearing on the basic physics and physiology and the subsequent treatment methods. The event will allow DAN’s Preferred Provider Network and referral clinicians to update their knowledge and skills in medical management aspects and offer a forum for discussion of dive-related medical management problems.

Faculty members include the following:

PETER B. BENNETT, Ph.D., D.Sc. — executive director, Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society; founder and past president, Divers Alert Network; chairman emeritus, International DAN; emeritus professor, anesthesiology, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.

CMD. JAMES L. CARUSO, M.D. — regional armed forces medical examiner; director for clinical support services, undersea medical officer, U.S. Naval Hospital, Okinawa, Japan.

JONATHAN L. CONARD, DO, FACOEP – attending physician, Emergency Department, attending wound care and hyperbaric physician, Duke Raleigh Hospital, Raleigh, N.C.

JOHN J. FREIBERGER, M.D., M.P.H. — course director; assistant medical director, Divers Alert Network; assistant professor, anesthesiology, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C.

JAMES R. HOLM, M.D., FACEP — full-time faculty, department of medicine, Intermountain Health Care; faculty member of hyperbaric medicine department, LDS Hospital and Intermountain Health Care, Salt Lake City, Utah
