St. Lucia Hosts the 61st DAN Diving and HBO Course
Last Updated: 11/14/2007 5:05:03 PM

Anse Chastanet Resort, overlooking the Piton Mountains and crystal-blue waters of St. Lucia, one of the Windward Islands, will be the host site for DAN’s 61st Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine course, Oct. 27-Nov. 3.

THE COURSE
This six-day continuing medical education course is designed primarily for physicians, emergency medical personnel, paramedics and nurses, but instructors, dive masters and other nonmedical dive-related personnel might also find the course valuable.

The curriculum provides an evidence-based foundation in the core concepts of diving and hyperbaric medicine. The course presents an opportunity for the DAN Preferred Provider Network and referral clinicians to update their knowledge and skills in medical management of dive injuries. In addition, it allows a forum for discussion of dive-related and hyperbaric medical problems.

THE VENUE
The island nation of St. Lucia sits in the eastern Caribbean Sea on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north of the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. It is also known as the "Helen of the West Indies" as the island switched between British and French control so often it was likened to the mythical Helen of Troy.

Anse Chastanet is a half mile from the picturesque town of Soufrière and is nestled within a tropical 400-acre estate. The hotel, with its bungalows nestled on the hillside and beach, is located in part on a lush hillside and in a cozy valley with one of the nicest natural beaches on the island. The combination of the resort’s lee side location provides favorable diving conditions as close as 50 feet (15 meters) from the shoreline. The reef adjacent to the resort provides an abundance of fish and some marine life uncommon throughout the rest of the Caribbean.
