 DAN said ?Ola!? to Severina Pagliara when she joined the organization Jan. 6 as its new Latin American Coordinator.
Pagliara replaced Elizabeth Carrasquillo, who held the position seven years through November 2004. She left DAN to pursue a career in religious missionary work, also in Latin America.
As DAN Latin American Staff Specialist, Pagliara will provide customer service and support the Spanish-speaking DAN Members and Business Members in Mexico and Central America. She will assist Chris Wachholz, Vice President, International, in planning, developing, coordinating and implementing DAN programs, projects and activities in Spanish-speaking Latin America.
Her duties include the following:
- Translating internal and external resource materials, correspondence and documentation into Spanish/English as needed, including content for the DAN Spanish website (http://www.DiversAlertNetwork.org/s);
- Recruiting and coordinating the work of volunteer Spanish and Portuguese translators and reviewing completed work;
- Coordinating and monitoring the work of volunteers for special projects and events throughout Latin America; and
- Monitoring and coodinating special courses and professional training events offered in Spanish in Latin America.
Fluent in Spanish and Italian, Pagliara has received teaching certifications in Guatemala, Mexico City and Italy. She was department manager of the Repsol Exploracion oil company in Guatemala from 1987-1990 and an administrative assistant for both Directmed, a medical supplies import / export firm in Long Island, N.Y., from 1990-1996 and 2002-2003, and Luxform S.R.L., a furniture manufacturer in Altamura, Italy from 1997-1998.
She also was a senior utilization management coordinator for Compdent Benefits / Primary Plus in Tampa, Fla. from 1999-2002. Prior to joining DAN, Pagliara was office manager for C: Support, Inc. in Durham, N.C.
