DAN / Duke Hyperbaric Center To Host 4th DMT Course March 13-18
Last Updated: 12/23/2004 2:29:50 PM

DAN/Duke Hyperbaric Center will offer its fourth Diver Medical Technician course in 2005. The first program will be March 13 – 18, 2005. Each course will be limited to 12 persons. DMT lectures will be held at the DAN Headquarters in Durham, N.C.

A prerequisite to participating in this program is EMT-B certification or higher. Attendees should also be experienced divers –leadership-level preferred. The National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology has accredited the DAN/Duke DMT course as a Module 16 program.

Duke University faculty and DAN staff will present the knowledge development lectures in the program. The program will also include skill training in DAN’s current Training Programs with additional skill training in Otoscope Use and Field Neurological Surveys. Included as part of the program is a two-day Chamber Operations program at the Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Environmental Physiology at the Duke University Medical Center.

Interested and qualified candidates may also elect to stay an additional day to receive DAN Instructor or Instructor Trainer certification in all DAN Training Programs. To be a DAN Instructor, candidates must be, at minimum, a leadership-level diver and CPR Instructor. To be a DAN Instructor Trainer, candidates must be Instructor Trainers or Course Directors with a recognized scuba diving training organization.

Course fees for this program are $600 and include certification through the NBDHMT, all course materials, four continental breakfasts and lunches, and a farewell reception. The optional Instructor / Instructor Trainer certification day is an additional $250. Fee includes all DAN Training materials.

A completed registration form, course fees, copy of diving certification card, and a copy of the paramedic or EMT certificate must be received to reserve a spot in the program. Both course offerings are expected to fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged. Registrants will also be asked to complete a medical evaluation form if they plan to complete a dive in the Duke hyperbaric chamber. The medical form will be provided upon registration.
