San Diego, CA – (Dec. 13, 2004) – The Diving Equipment & Marketing Association’s (DEMA) 2005 Scuba Tour schedule has been announced, and it could be coming to a city near you. If you’ve always wanted to try scuba diving, you may now have the chance to ... in your own hometown.
Introducing people to the exciting sport of scuba diving, The Scuba Tour has confirmed more than 15 stops at consumer events from coast to coast in 2005. The Scuba Tour’s first four stops will be Jan. 1–9, 2005 at the New York National Boat Show in New York City, Jan. 12–16 at the Chicagolands Outdoor Show / Our World Underwater in Chicago, Jan. 14–16 at the Adventures in Travel Expo in New York City and Jan. 29–30 at the Adventures in Travel Expo in Washington, D.C.
Anyone age 10 and up can come out and discover the fun and exciting sport of scuba diving in the comfort of a tropically warm 26,000-gallon pool and meet "Big Wave Dave" Reidenbach, the Scuba Tour Coordinator, who has become an attraction unto himself. Event attendees will not only have the opportunity to try scuba diving for free, but also to test out some of the latest scuba equipment provided on-site and have a photo of themselves taken underwater to take home as a keepsake.
At each event, the Scuba Tour pool will be staffed by professional diving instructors from the local community. In addition, those who take the plunge in the scuba pool need not worry about getting wet, since The Scuba Tour provides towels, hair dryers and mirrors.
One of DEMA’s programs aimed at raising awareness for the dive industry, in 2004 more than 12,000 people took to The Scuba Tour pool to experience scuba diving firsthand. The Scuba Tour 2005 is sponsored by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), Scuba Diving International (SDI/TDI), Scuba Schools International (SSI), Tourism Corporation Bonaire and a host of equipment sponsors.
