Is DAN a nonprofit organization?

Yes. Divers Alert Network, Inc. was incorporated in North Carolina as a not-for-profit corporation in 1990 and maintains tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.

Are my dues to DAN tax deductible?

No, dues are not tax deductible. However, because DAN activities are considered charitable and in the public interest under the U.S. and North Carolina nonprofit codes, all donations are tax deductible.

What does DAN membership cost?

You can become a DAN member for an annual fee of only $35 for an individual ($40 in Canada) or $55 for a family ($60 in Canada).

Who is covered on my family membership?

A family membership will cover you, your spouse or cohabitant and all unmarried dependent children under the age of 18, or under 24 if a full-time student at an accredited school or college, who is not employed on a full-time basis and has the same permanent home address as the parent. Family members must be listed on the membership record in DAN's database to have access to membership benefits.

Is DAN membership restricted by geographical location?

DAN America provides coverage only for people who have their principal primary residence in the United States or Canada. If you live in another country, refer to the International DAN organizations.

Is DAN owned by any of the training agencies?

No. DAN is not owned by any training agency, business or individual. It is operated for the benefit of the diving public, and all funds received by DAN are used to support its mission-related activities.

Are lifetime memberships available?

Lifetime memberships are not available at this time.

How soon can I get coverage and my membership card?

Membership and insurance go into effect when DAN receives payment. You can get immediate coverage by joining online or by calling 1-800-446-2671 and paying by credit card (Discover, Visa, MasterCard or American Express). In case of injury, you will be in the DAN database by membership number and by name. You will receive your new membership card 10-14 business days after DAN receives your payment.

What is the medical evacuation service?

As a DAN Member, you automatically receive DAN TravelAssist® and up to $100,000 of evacuation assistance coverage. This benefit is effective for both diving and nondiving medical emergencies. Your medical evacuation coverage begins when you travel at least 50 miles (80 km) from home. To use this member benefit you MUST first contact DAN TravelAssist through the DAN Emergency Hotline (+1-919-684-9111) BEFORE making any evacuation arrangements.

How do I get reimbursed by DAN TravelAssist for evacuation?

Reimbursement is not available from DAN TravelAssist because this is a service not insurance coverage. DAN is not an insurance company.

How do I use DAN TravelAssist?

You must call the DAN Emergency Hotline (+1-919-684-9111) to arrange assistance.

Will DAN TravelAssist repatriate me home?

DAN TravelAssist will not pay to transport you or a covered family member to your place of residence if there are closer appropriate medical facilities that are capable of attending to your medical condition.

Does DAN membership cover costs for hyperbaric chamber treatments and other medical costs?

No. If you need insurance coverage for the medical costs related to diving accidents, please see one of our three levels of dive accident insurance that you can purchase in addition to your membership.

May I order Alert Diver without being a member?

Receiving Alert Diver is a benefit of membership; DAN doesn't offer a subscription alone.

What products does DAN carry?

DAN carries many informative and safety-oriented products such as textbooks, DVDs, emergency oxygen equipment and first aid kits as well as DAN logo apparel and other items. See what is available in the DAN Online Store.

Will my address or phone number be sold or made available to "junk mail" or other solicitations?

DAN is committed to protecting your privacy and uses your personal information only to process orders and provide you with the highest level of service. Read more about the DAN Privacy Policy.

I paid my renewal. Why have I received a second and final notice?

Four separate notices are mailed to you. If you make a payment, it often crosses in the mail with one of the later renewal notices. You will receive your new membership card 10-14 business days after DAN receives your payment. You can call 1-800-446-2671 to confirm receipt of your payment anytime.
