What is the DAN Student Membership Program?
DAN Student Membership is a program that offers entry-level divers in the DAN Americas region limited insurance coverage for the duration of their entry-level training. It provides up to $20,000 of recompression treatment insurance at no cost to the diver or the instructors who teach them. The program is about protecting new divers and providing peace of mind to students and instructors alike.

Who is eligible to participate?
The program is open to any entry-level diver and any certified instructor teaching in the DAN Americas region. Students under the age of 18 need consent from a parent or guardian to enroll.

How much does it cost?
The program is free to entry-level students and certified instructors. There is no cost to use the program, and neither students nor instructors who use the program are under any obligation to join DAN as a full member.

How long is the membership active?
Student Membership is valid as soon as a registration and a current Student Member ID Number is issued. Coverage commences on the date the Student Member ID Number is issued and lasts through the end of the final dive needed for certification, or six months, whichever comes sooner.

How are students enrolled?
Students can be enrolled three ways:

  • Online at www.danismybuddy.com – students can enroll themselves
  • Online at www.danismybuddy.com – instructors can enroll their students
  • A paper roster is filled out in class and submitted to DAN by the instructor.
Upon receipt of a student’s registration, both the student and instructor will receive via email a confirmation of registration and the student’s new Student Member ID number.

How do instructors benefit from using the Student Membership Program?
The bottom line is that accidents happen and that despite every best effort to prevent it, students may get injured. Enrolling students in the Student Membership program provides them the protection they’ll need should they require recompression treatment during the course of their entry-level training. Not only does this provide peace of mind for the student, it significantly increases the level of risk management on the part of the instructor at absolutely no cost. Also, points are earned for students enrolled and Student Members who go on to become full DAN Members; these points can be redeemed for DAN Products or the instructor’s own DAN Membership.

How do businesses benefit from using the Student Membership Program?
Business benefit in largely the same way instructors do; providing every possible service to ensure the comfort and safety of students is a great way to begin a long-term customer relationship with them. Providing them with $20,000 recompression treatment insurance also increases a business’s risk management factor at no cost to the business. Also like individual instructors, points are earned for students enrolled and Student Members who go on to become full DAN Members, and these points can be redeemed for DAN Products, the business’s own DAN Business Membership, or a staff member’s individual DAN Membership.
