Divers Alert Network has established the Peter B. Bennett Research Fund, honoring the founder and CEO of the dive safety organization.
In June, Dr. Bennett will retire, culminating 23 years with DAN. Dr. Bennett led DAN from the earliest days, when he manned the single telephone on his desk at the Duke University Medical Center’s Hyperbaric Center to DAN’s current position as the pre-eminent dive safety organization in the world.
DAN Chief Development Officer Eileen Sahlin said DAN will continue to grow and develop as Dr. Bennett envisioned during his stewardship. "As part of DAN’s development and to help ensure the far-reaching impact of research - Dr. Bennett’s first love - DAN has created the Dr. Peter B. Bennett Research Fund within The DAN Endowment," said Sahlin. "This fund will support research initiatives, enhancing dive safety far into the future."
Dr. Bennett’s service to the dive community and dive safety is well documented. During his career he has published more than 200 papers and six books and received many distinguished awards for his contributions to science, medicine and dive safety, as well as honorary degrees.
