Programs Will Include Presentations from DAN Training and Medicine
Two DAN® representatives will be participating in the 2009 Curaçao Dive Festival that begins this weekend on the Caribbean island of Curaçao.
Vice President of DAN Medical Services Joel Dovenbarger and Director of DAN Training Eric Douglas will attend to take part in the festival’s program. They will deliver presentations on “Trends in Dive Accidents” and “Myths and Misconceptions in Diving.”
In addition to presenting lectures as part of the general program, Douglas and Dovenbarger will be joined by Eric Schinazi of the Duke University Medical Center Hyperbaric facility to conduct a special DAN Chamber Attendant/Chamber Operator course for the staff of the local hospital. The purpose of the course is to train new local staff responsible for the operation of their hyperbaric chamber. The course is being offered free of charge through the DAN Recompression Chamber Assistance Program (RCAP) and the DAN Training department. It is also being sponsored through the assistance of the Curaçao Tourism Board and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Willemstad.
“To be able to take part in this festival and share information in person on an island we don’t get to visit very often is terrific,” Douglas said. “We really appreciate the invitation from the organizers to come and discuss these topics with folks for whom diving is such an integral part of life.”
Adds Dovenbarger: “DAN is always looking for ways to further its mission and share information that can help keep divers safer; collaborations like this are certainly a great way to do that. We certainly appreciate the festival’s organizers thinking of us and inviting us to take part.”
The Curaçao Dive Festival runs May 23-30.
