Nationwide Blitz Includes Stop in Secaucus
DAN began a nationwide Training blitz earlier this year, and one of its latest stops was Secaucus, N.J., for the March 27-29 dive show Beneath the Sea. Among the Training programs conducted included Instructor and Instructor Trainer-level training for DAN’s new training program, Dive Medicine for Divers.
Dive Medicine for Divers is designed for those who want to learn dive medicine beyond basic first aid. Level one of the program teaches topics such as fitness to dive, physical exam techniques and risk assessment. The overall program also includes DAN Training courses such as DEMP and On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers. All current DAN Instructors maintaining active status are eligible to be certified as a Dive Medicine for Divers Instructor.
In addition to Dive Medicine for Divers training, DAN staff conducted both Instructor and Instructor Updates; a full schedule is available at www.DiversAlertNetwork.org.
Divers had one other chance to see DAN Training in action when Eric Douglas, director of DAN Training, teamed up with Marty McCafferty, a DAN medical information specialist, to bring divers a one-time seminar on Dive Accident Management for Divers. The workshop focused on three aspects of dive accident management: 1) the unique nature of dive accidents; 2) steps to recognizing DCI in divers; 3) oxygen — its basis and uses, safety aspects and the oxygen window. Open to any interested diver, the program is essential for boat captains, divemasters and instructors.
DAN Is Here For You.
